A mixed age team of Year 6, 7 & 8 boys went to George Abbot School last week to compete against teams from schools in the area solving an engineering challenge. Everyone faced the same problem so our boys were competing against students across Key Stages 3, 4 & 5! They had to work independently (all the teachers had to sit in another room) and create a wind powered elevator to lift as many polo mints as possible to table level with the time constraint of lifting them in under one minute. This problem was unseen (so unprepared) and you can see our boy’s solution in the photograph above. Their answer worked really well and even beat the girl’s team sitting close by (from a neighbouring girl’s school). The boys were very pleased to have taken part and enjoyed the fun of working in a team to independently build a working model.
