For the first time in the School’s history our service of remembrance was held online and broadcast simultaneously to all boys and our wider community on Wednesday 11 November at 11.00am.
After the reading from Wisdom III 1 – 9 by Upper Sixth Form student Guy Tregear, wreaths were laid on behalf of the old boys of our school and the current school community respectively by Religion and Philosophy teacher and Old Guildfordian Mr Tayar and School Captain Theo Lakin.
The two-minute silence concluded with a beautiful, haunting performance of the Last Post by Upper Sixth Form student Stan Lawrence. As one member of our community noted: “It was very moving, but I particularly wanted to write to ask you to thank the student who played the Last Post so beautifully. My husband is a lieutenant-colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corps and so I’ve been to many Remembrance events over the years and have heard the Last Post played many times by army buglers. However, I’ve rarely heard it played so well. It really was excellent and he’d obviously taken great care to practise and give a performance befitting the occasion.”
The Second Form choristers also were outstanding as they sang selected verse from O God, our help in ages past and Immortal Invisible. If you would like to watch our short service of remembrance, please click here.
