Year 8 Spanish Trip

Posted: 31st August 2021

The sun shone over Gredos as we said our goodbyes to the wonderful staff.  We then headed on a two and a half hour journey to Madrid for our last day of activities.  Senora Mendoza gave the boys a guided tour of this beautiful city.  Firstly, we enjoyed a picnic sitting in the Plaza de Oriente located opposite The Royal Palace of Madrid.  Then we walked through the streets to the Plaza Mayor.  Split into groups, we all visited the oldest operating restaurant in the world, Restaurant Botin, the bustling Mercado de la Paz and enjoyed a stop off to enjoy an ice cream in the Buen Retiro Park before heading back to the airport, a perfect end to a fun packed few days.

Well, another busy day has been enjoyed by all. Starting with an aerobic workout, Spanish style.  The boys then visited the local town of Gredos, using their knowledge of Spanish to complete a town trail discovering different points of interest including the Town Hall and shopping in the local supermarket.  This was followed by an outdoor activity, archery and cooking a Spanish delicacy, Tortilla.

After dinner, the boys had fun watching all their videos created yesterday in groups.  Our day was finished off with Pilar the Head Chef offering the boys a delicious cake. Tomorrow another busy day awaits in Madrid.

Today was filled with activities.  Split into two groups one-half spent the morning at the outdoor activity centre zip wiring through the trees and then went on a nature walk learning the names of four ecosystems and the plants and animals within them.  The other half enjoyed interviewing in Spanish a member of Staff at the Gredos Centre then created their own advert, film trailer, documentary or cookery show, for example, all in Spanish!!  Then we all swapped around.  The sun has been shining and the boys are really enjoying the delicious homemade local Spanish cuisine provided by the excellent chefs on site.

Following our arrival at Madrid we headed to the fortified town of Avila, an hour and a half drive from the airport.  IHere we enjoyed a picnic lunch then we walked along the ramparts of this medieval city.  We strolled around the town centre passing by the cathedral and the town hall before making our way to the Gredos centre.  The boys later took part in a treasure hunt on site before enjoying a delicious dinner where they learnt all the key vocabulary related to mealtimes.  As we write this the boys are settling down to bed, wish us luck!!!
