Prep Activities Week 2022

Posted: 23rd June 2022

RGS Prep have had an amazing week full of exciting and varied activities. All the staff concerned were impressed with the engagement and behaviour of the boys. A fantastic time was had by all!

Year 3 began the week camping at Embers Campsite, Polesdon Lacey, where the boys participated in everything from orienteering and bushcraft to Zorb football. Waking at ‘the crack of dawn,’ Year 3 headed off to the Unicorn Theatre in London to watch Marvin’s Binoculars whilst enjoying a delicious ice cream. On Wednesday, an Escape Room Company visited, and the boys were immersed in code breaking and problem solving which they thoroughly enjoyed. Thursday took us back to the Roman invasion of Britain where at Ufton Court the boys and staff learned about what life would have been like in this era. The boys finished the day with a Roman banquet and a battle re-enactment in historic clothing. Year 3’s week ended with a visit from awe: STEM and the boys loved developing their knowledge of Minecraft, Scratch and Lego Robotics.

Year 4 started the week with a brilliant Lego workshop which involved the boys constructed their own city, adding electronic parts to it to make elements light up and move. On Tuesday, we welcomed a Circus company who put on a very impressive performance and taught the boys a variety of circus skills such as unicycling, making juggling balls and using diablos. Year 4 ended the week camping, learning some practical first aid and participating in a range of bushcraft activities in Blenheim Woods in Oxfordshire.

Year 5 stopped off at the Lagoona aqua park, for a challenging but exciting water activity involving an inflatable assault course, on route to the beautiful Margam Park Discovery Centre in Port Talbot. The weather could not have been better for us as we ran all over the 900-acre estate playing games, building shelters, tackling mud runs, paddleboarding, pond dipping, kayaking, and telling stories around the campfire. The boys were so engaged and showed such readiness to try new things.

The Year 6 boys thoroughly enjoyed a week in the sunshine at Buddens activity centre. They took part in paddleboarding, rock climbing, crate stacking, kayaking, axe throwing and archery to name a few. In the evenings they enjoyed roasting marshmallows over the campfire and sleeping in one of the idyllic tented villages.
