Field Day 3

Posted: 15th March 2024

Friday 8 March was Field Day 3, the highlight of the co-curricular calendar which offers an exciting array of activities for our students.

Our First Form students are rotating activities over this and the next Field Day. Half ventured to the London Science Museum, while the remainder enjoyed sports coaching and a trip to the Spectrum for bowling.

Second Form students teamed up with Tormead School for an enterprise challenge led by the highly successful 8 Billion Ideas company. Guided by business experts, they delved into sustainability, design skills, and climate change mitigation, culminating in engaging presentations before a panel.

For those who chose the drama option, they experienced an exciting theatre-themed treasure hunt and murder mystery tour through Guildford.

Participants in the EXAD option were split into groups A and B. Group A tackled navigation training for upcoming overnight expeditions, while Group B engaged in conservation work under the guidance of Guildford Borough Council rangers.

Surfing enthusiasts honed their skills under Kingsurf’s guidance in Mawgan Porth, Cornwall.

Outdoor Pursuits divided its cohort with one group biking through the Surrey Hills, while another tackled high-ropes activities and archery. The other half involved in Outdoor Pursuits either took part in go-karting in Crawley or paintballing in Cobham.

An enjoyable but challenge day for those doing Mountain Biking. They completed a 20 mile cross-country route between Guildford and the Holmbury Hill area.

Sixth Form hikers explored Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park.

Students who are members of one of the successful teams to have their business pitch accepted by the Tycoon Enterprise competition, undertook a business development day, finalising their product to release to market, creating marketing campaigns and preparing their financial statement templates.

The rest of the Enterprise group joined some of the Upper Sixth who are learning about ethical trading from Amplify, a company that trains many graduate students for investment banks in the city. They were involved in a trading simulation followed by visits to some independent businesses in Guildford who set the teams real challenges that are facing their business.

Finally, the climbing and mountaineering group enjoyed bouldering and technique training at Parthion Climbing.

The day was a resounding success where all enjoyed their activities and gained valuable experiences across various fields – a memorable and enriching event.
