Chris Murray (OG’17) and Gold Medalist Weightlifter in the 81kg weight class at the 2022 Commonwealth Games returned to the RGS last week to give an inspiring assembly with Ian Wilkes to the First Form. It was a delight to hear Chris talk about his path to victory, valuable lessons learned along the way and his future ambitions in the world of Weightlifting. “What stands in the way becomes the way”. He is already 4 times British and English Champion and he set a new Commonwealth Games record after lifting an astounding 325kg from his snatch and clean and jerk lifts. He has also chosen to have his plaque from the Commonwealth Games Committee displayed at the RGS Gym where it all began when he was in the 4th Form – full circle! Chris is now a Regional Pathway Manager with British Weightlifting and aiming next at the European Championships and the Olympics. We wish him all the very best.
