A summer full of trips and excursions began with the annual Fourth Form engineering trip. The multi-stop trip took in RAF Cosford, where students enjoyed furthering their knowledge of aeronautical engineering with displays of planes and equipment showing the changing of engineering throughout history; Ironbridge: the world’s first iron bridge; a stop at Jodrell Bank to witness the dish being moved, as well as some great exhibitions; a session on ‘The Physics of Theme Parks’ in preparation for the following day at Alton Towers; and the National Space Centre at Leicester, which houses the Thor rocket, Helen Sharman and Tim Peake’s spacesuits, and Gemini TTV-2, a test capsule from the early days of the space program to name a few.
