On Tuesday 27 February, the German Department hosted its second successful German Bake-Off competition. The Third and Fourth Form Germanists followed authentic German and Austrian recipes, creating a host of magnificent cakes and biscuits, including Black Forest gâteaux, Sachertorten, apple cakes and even a magnificent gingerbread house. Students had the option to bake something in the traditional style, or to get creative on the theme of ‘modernity’. The panel of judges scored the entries according to taste, appearance and creativity, ultimately choosing the winners below. Despite the vast quantity of cake, it was all quickly demolished by the 200+ students who passed through the T corridor on Tuesday lunchtime, attracted by the whiff of fresh baking.
