The talented Year 5 & 6 Drama Club boys of RGS Prep delivered a spectacular performance of Rock Bottom, the beloved Stone Age musical by Craig Hawes. Their incredible energy, enthusiasm and dedication shone through in a production that captivated the audience from start to finish.
Adding to the excitement of the event, Rock Bottom producer Craig Hawes himself attended the performance, accompanied by his wife, Hayla. Prior to the show, he held a Q&A session with the cast, where the boys asked insightful and thoughtful questions about the script, the music, his experience as a writer and composer, and any funny stories from shows Mr Hawes has seen. Mr Hawes was thoroughly impressed with the boys’ curiosity and passion, stating in a follow-up email, “Your pupils were friendly, inquisitive, and polite, and they asked many really insightful and interesting questions during our talk. You have some talented young performers amongst them, too, and it was truly delightful to watch as they brought my Rock Bottom script and music to life on stage.”
The production was a wonderful team effort, with staff members playing a crucial role in its success, helping with make up, staging and more. Mr Hague took on multiple roles, including dressing as a dinosaur and playing the guitar. The boys were delighted to see one of their teachers on stage. The pupils fully embraced the prehistoric world of Rock Bottom, donning an array of eye-catching costumes that transported the audience back to the Stone Age. From rugged caveman tunics to elaborate props, the attention to detail added depth and vibrancy to the production.
The entire school community came together to support the show, with teachers and parents praising the hard work and dedication of both the performers and the production team. Congratulations to all involved in this unforgettable show.
