Spanish Immersion Trip

In the first week of the Easter holidays, thirty-eight First and Second Form Spanish students embarked on an exciting journey from Guildford, Surrey to the North of Barcelona for a Spanish immersion trip. Set in the beautiful and tranquil surroundings of Mas Pages, the trip was designed to enhance the students’ language skills and cultural understanding through a variety of engaging activities.

Day 1: Arrival and Activities

Upon arrival, the students were immediately immersed in the Spanish language and culture. The serene environment of Mas Pages provided the perfect backdrop for the activities planned. The boys participated in treasure hunts, which not only tested their Spanish vocabulary but also their teamwork and problem-solving skills. Spanish cooking sessions allowed them to learn and practice culinary terms while preparing traditional dishes, adding a delicious twist to their learning experience.

Day 2: Nature Trails and Golf

The second day was filled with outdoor activities. Nature trails offered the students an opportunity to explore the local flora and fauna while practicing their Spanish in a natural setting. The golf sessions were not only fun but also a great way for the boys to interact and communicate in Spanish, enhancing their conversational skills in a relaxed environment.

Day 3: Cultural Highlights

One of the trip’s highlights was visiting the iconic Sagrada Familia. The students were awestruck by the grandeur of Gaudí’s masterpiece and enjoyed learning about its history and architectural significance. The epic frisbee and football matches throughout the week were also a hit, fostering camaraderie and providing a fun way to practice Spanish.

Day 4: Spanish Meal and Market Scavenger Hunt

The Spanish meal in Barcelona was a culinary adventure, with the boys trying new tastes and experiencing the vibrant food culture of the city. The scavenger hunt in the Boqueria market was particularly impressive. The boys interacted with storeholders, using their Spanish to communicate effectively and navigate the bustling market. This activity not only boosted their confidence but also provided a real-world application of their language skills.

The boys were a great credit to the School throughout the trip, demonstrating enthusiasm and a willingness to engage in all activities. The highlight of the trip had to be the speed at which the entire group devoured Carambola’s entire selection of Catalan ice cream in about five minutes!  Overall, the Spanish immersion trip to Barcelona was a resounding success, leaving the students with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for the Spanish language and culture.
