Pupils across RGS Prep have recently enjoyed a fantastic Activities Week packed with new experiences, learning opportunities and plenty of fun. Each year group followed a unique programme tailored to spark curiosity, develop skills and create lasting memories.
Pre-Prep: A Week of Exploration and Imagination
Pre-Prep pupils enjoyed a delightful Activities Week filled with variety, creativity and adventure. From feeding animals and riding tractors at Bocketts Farm to stepping aboard a real steam train on the historic Watercress Line, each day brought something new and exciting.
Back at school, the children took part in a lively storytelling workshop and got creative during a clay tile making session, carefully crafting their own designs to take home. A visit to Gatton Park offered a chance to explore nature and take part in outdoor activities, while a fun pizza-making workshop brought big smiles and even bigger appetites.
Year 3: Farmyard Fun, Roman Warriors and Outdoor Adventures
Year 3 began their week with a lively trip to Fishers Farm Park, where they enjoyed meeting a wide range of animals, taking a tractor trailer ride and experiencing the thrill of jumping from high platforms in the adventure play area. Excitement was high, and the pupils showed wonderful curiosity and courage throughout the day.
Later in the week, they ventured to Kingswood Grosvenor Hall for a residential stay. Here, the children participated in a wide variety of outdoor activities that encouraged teamwork, confidence and independence.
The week was rounded off with a Roman Experience Day, which brought ancient history to life. Pupils explored real Roman artefacts, took part in dramatic battle re-enactments and engaged in interactive workshops led by a visiting expert. It was a brilliant way to conclude an unforgettable week.
Year 4: Saxons, Circus Skills and South Downs Exploration
Year 4’s Activities Week began with an immersive Anglo Saxon Day. Pupils decoded runes, completed a quiz, listened to the legendary tale of Beowulf and re-enacted the famous Battle of Hastings, all while dressed in costume and fully embracing the time period.
On Tuesday, Lucas and Jonny amazed everyone with their circus skills demonstration. The children then had a chance to try out tricks themselves – including juggling, diabolo spinning, slackline walking and even unicycling. The day was filled with energy, perseverance and laughter.
The remainder of the week was spent outdoors, exploring the South Downs. From beach visits and river walks to woodland crafts, pupils learned new survival skills such as fire-lighting and created handmade god’s eyes and hammer prints. The connection with nature and sense of adventure made for a truly memorable week.
Year 5: Adventure and Teamwork in the Heart of Dorset
Year 5 enjoyed a thrilling residential at Buddens Activity Centre in Wareham, set in the beautiful Isle of Purbeck. With the sun shining all week, pupils made the most of every moment, embracing a full programme of adventurous activities including tomahawk throwing, kayaking, ziplining, canoeing and archery.
Beyond the adrenaline rush, there were also team-building tasks that encouraged communication, resilience and problem-solving. Pupils camped under the stars and took part in evening challenges that brought the group closer together. Their maturity, enthusiasm and teamwork made the experience truly rewarding for all involved.
Year 6: Culture, Coasters and Chocolate in Spain and France
Year 6 had the experience of a lifetime as they travelled to Spain and France for their Activities Week. After arriving in Barcelona, the group explored the CosmoCaixa science museum, where interactive exhibits such as the living rainforest and ‘living metal’ amazed and inspired.
A day trip to France took pupils to the historic city of Perpignan and then to the Cemoi chocolate factory, where they became chocolatiers for the day. Other highlights included an afternoon by the hotel pool, evening games, and a sunset walk to the beach near the medieval castillo.
Wednesday’s visit to PortAventura theme park brought thrills galore, with rollercoasters, log flumes and unforgettable rides. On Thursday, pupils enjoyed a glass-bottomed boat trip to explore sea caves, followed by a walk through Tossa de Mar and a clifftop monastery visit. The final day included shopping on La Rambla and a cultural visit to the Poble Espanyol. It was a week full of learning, fun and cultural enrichment.
Whether they were exploring ancient history, conquering outdoor challenges or navigating new cultures, every pupil stepped out of their comfort zone and embraced something different. Activities Week reminded us all of the value of hands-on learning, adventure and shared experiences.
