Celebrating World Diversity Day: A Joyful Celebration of Culture and Inclusion

On Wednesday 21 May, RGS Prep celebrated World Diversity Day and the many cultures and backgrounds that make up our student body. With connections to over 50 countries around the world, our school is a true reflection of global diversity — and this special day was a testament to the power of inclusion, curiosity and mutual respect.

Pupils of all ages were invited to bring in meaningful cultural items from home, sharing the traditions, stories and heritage that make their backgrounds unique. The classrooms buzzed with excitement as children proudly explained the significance of their artefacts, while their peers listened with genuine curiosity and enthusiasm. From traditional garments to musical instruments and family heirlooms, the array of items on display was as diverse as it was beautiful.

One of the highlights of the day was a badge-making activity, where students designed colourful emblems featuring flags, patterns and symbols that represented their identity and sense of belonging. The creative expressions were not only impressive in design but also deeply personal, offering a wonderful window into each student’s cultural world.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion has recently been recognised at a national level through our Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspection. We are proud to be one of just a handful of schools across the country to receive the rare accolade of two ‘significant strengths’, a distinction awarded to schools for their profound impact on students.

The report highlighted: “A school culture that actively promotes inclusion and mutual respect highly successfully. This is a significant strength of the school.” It went on to note that “tolerance, kindness and mutual respect pervade every aspect of school life.”

World Diversity Day served as a powerful reminder of our school values of respect and inclusivity in action. It was a joyful, educational and unifying experience that left a lasting impression on all who took part — a true celebration of the wonderfully diverse community we are proud to call our own.
