Former RGS Guildford Student Arvid Lindblad to make FP1 debut at F1

Arvid Lindblad’s upcoming debut in Formula 1 free practice at the British Grand Prix is a moment of immense pride for all of us at RGS Guildford. As a former pupil of both RGS Prep, formerly known as Lanesborough, and RGS Guildford itself, Arvid’s journey from our classrooms and sports fields to the pinnacle of motorsport is nothing short of remarkable. It feels extraordinary to see a young man who once walked the same corridors and wore the same uniform preparing to drive a Formula 1 car at Silverstone, one of the sport’s most iconic circuits, and in front of his home crowd. For our school community, this news is far more than just a sporting headline; it is a powerful example of where dedication, talent and ambition can lead.

Arvid has been part of the Red Bull Junior Team since he was just 13 years old, showing not only exceptional racing talent but also the kind of focus and resilience that we strive to nurture in all our pupils. He has progressed rapidly through the ranks of motorsport, earning an FIA Super Licence at just 17, an achievement that underlines both his skill and the trust placed in him by a top-tier Formula 1 team. Recently, he completed a test in the 2023 AlphaTauri F1 car at Imola, sharing duties with another promising driver, Ayumu Iwasa. Now, stepping into Yuki Tsunoda’s RB21 for Free Practice 1 at the British Grand Prix is the latest milestone in a career that looks increasingly destined for the highest level.

For the staff and students at RGS Guildford, this is an encouraging source of inspiration. Arvid’s story demonstrates that significant achievements are possible for those who pursue their interests with determination. His progress serves as a reminder that the values we uphold as a school—integrity, collaboration, independence, scholarship, respect and inclusivity—can open doors in even the most competitive fields. It also provides a positive example for current pupils who may be aiming for careers in sport, engineering or any area where dedication and talent are key.

Many of us at RGS Guildford will be watching Arvid’s progress with interest, particularly as he takes to the track at Silverstone. We are pleased to see his hard work paying off and wish him well for the opportunities ahead.
