Rugby highlights
It was a packed week for RGS rugby, with midweek National Cup matches followed by a full block of fixtures against Hurstpierpoint College.
The 1st XV started strong at the National Cup Round 1with early tries from Henry T. and Alex J., but St George’s rallied to win 31–17.
The U15A also faced a tough challenge away at Marlborough, losing 18–31 in a closely contested match. Meanwhile, the 3rd XV bounced back from a previous defeat to beat KCS Wimbledon 29–14, with standout performances from Cam B., Max P. (hat-trick), and Alexander P. (three conversions and a penalty).
On Saturday, the 1st XV put in a spirited performance against Hurstpierpoint, with tries from Ollie C., Hugo T., and Harry C., but narrowly lost 22–19. The 2nd XV showed resilience after a slow start, with Leo H. and Joe P. scoring in a 27–17 defeat.
The 3rd XV dominated with tries from Cam B., Alexander P., and Soham D., sealing a 26–5 win.
U16A continued their winning streak with a 20–5 victory, thanks to George V., Lucas L., and Arthur F. The U16B fell 39–12 despite tries from Michael N. and Eashan P.
U15A edged out Hurst 19–12, while the U15B impressed with a 39–20 win. U15C lost narrowly 26–24, whilst the U15D match was cancelled.
In the U14s, the A team won 17–0, while the B and C teams lost close matches.
Second Form House Rugby: Nearly 80 Second Form boys enjoyed a fabulous morning full of fastpaced attacking rugby in the Under 13 House rugby tournament. All teams threw the ball around in perfect conditions and there were tries galore. Valpy emerged victorious in a thrilling final with Austen, in which the Valpy speedsters ultimately made the difference.
Football highlights
The RGS 1st XI football team kicked off their English Schools’ FA Cup campaign with a confident 3–1 win over St. Crispin’s School in Round 1.
Despite challenging conditions, the team adapted quickly, opting for a direct and high-pressure style of play. Their efforts paid off with three moments of quality that secured the win. Sam S. opened the scoring with a composed finish, while Harry G. was in top form, netting twice to seal the result. The team’s energy and tactical discipline were evident throughout, with strong pressing and quick transitions keeping the opposition on the back foot.
Cross Country highlights
Ten students competed in the King’s Trophy on Wimbledon Common: a fast-paced 7km race with over 150 entries. Eshan T. led the RGS pack, finishing 44th, followed by Nick Y., Zain T., Marcus W., Peter H., and Thomas T., all placing strongly in a competitive Sixth Form field.

ESSA regional swimming relays
RGS teams delivered a clean sweep. The Junior team: Ethan T., Eli D., George R., and Dujun H. won both their Freestyle and Medley relays, breaking the 2-minute mark. The Intermediate team of Alex S., Lucas G., Jake M-H., and William B. matched the feat with two victories of their own. The Senior team—Zack G., Dylan F., Will J., and Ralph C.—performed admirably, securing third place in both events. All swimmers now look ahead to the national finals in Birmingham with confidence.
Shooting highlights
The team took on St John’s in their first smallbore match of the term.
The 10-Bull IV: Josh J., Ayaan B., Steve D., and Luke E. won 376–331, with Ayaan B. top scoring at 97.
The 5-Bull IV: Joey C., Stephen B., James G., and George S.edged a close contest 376–375, with James G. scoring 98.
Ultimate Frisbee highlights
The third instalment of the Staff vs Boys series saw a thrilling match. With the score tied at 6–6 in the final minutes, the staff team pulled ahead to win 8–6, maintaining their unbeaten streak. The boys, spanning Third to Sixth Form, impressed with their teamwork and strategic play.
