Local Educational Partnerships
The Tudor Project
Over the past two decades, RGS Guildford’s Tudor Project has welcomed tens of thousands of primary pupils to visit the RGS. Each week throughout the year we host a class of Year 4 or 5 pupils from local schools who are studying the Tudors to spend a day at the RGS in immersive activities for Tudor history, music, literature, games and art. Based in our original Tudor building. They visit the Chained Library, experience Tudor instruments and dance, delve into the world of Shakespeare, play dice games (including exploring the pitfalls of gambling!) and explore and practise portraiture.
The RGS String Scheme
Running continuously for over 15 years, The RGS String Scheme supported by our generous sponsors (The Surrey Hills International Music Festival, the Mila Charity, the Cheryl King Trust and the Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust) provides instruments and teaches every pupil in Year 4 at Boxgrove and Sandfield Primary Schools to play the violin or cello for a year. The RGS also runs continuation lessons for Years 5 & 6 at both schools, a weekly string orchestra at Boxgrove, and arranges concerts in which all Strings Scheme participants perform. This nationally recognised scheme currently reaches around 170 pupils each week.
Masterclasses
For the past two decades, every Autumn the RGS opens its doors to over 120 Year 6 pupils from over 35 different primary schools for four consecutive Saturday morning Masterclasses in seven strands: Ancient World (Latin, Greek, Classical Culture, Philosophy), Creative Arts (Drama, Art, Music, English), Humanities (Geography, History, Politics and Economics), Maths, Modern Foreign Languages (Chinese, Russian, Japanese and German), Science and Technology. As well as being inspiring, educational and fun, the Masterclasses also help the boys and girls involved to develop confidence in an unfamiliar situation and to look forward to their transition to secondary school.
West Surrey Partnership
Since its inception in 2022, RGS Guildford has been a core member of the West Surrey Partnership. Our cross-phase, cross-sector collective of nearly 40 schools in the wider Guildford area exists to work together for the mutual benefit of all our students and staff guided by principles of mutual respect, collaboration, and citizenship, with a focus on activities to support literacy, leadership, sustainability and STEAM.
Learning Partners Academy Trust
For many years the RGS has had a close association with the local Learning Partners Multi Academy Trust across a wide variety of subject areas. In particular we have close links with Kings College Guildford and Sandfield Primary School including teaching Science, Latin, Maths and French to Kings College and Sandfield primary school pupils. As part of General Studies, RGS students run the Sandfield chess club, and act as reading mentors.
Interested Motivated & Able Guildford (IMAG) programme
IMAG Programme
The RGS leads the ‘Interested Motivated & Able Guildford’ (IMAG) programme on behalf of the Guildford 11-19 Partnership – a group including all of the Guildford secondary schools plus Guildford College and the University of Surrey which cooperates to ensure that the most vulnerable pupils receive appropriate education, provides networks for staff, and promotes joint educational experiences. IMAG is a programme which facilitates any student at any school attending events hosted by any of the member schools. Events for Education in Guildford | Imag
