Our main entry points are at 11+ (Year 7) and 16+ (Year 12). In addition, however, we may have occasional places available in Years 8, 9 and 10. Historically, we have had a 13+ intake; we continue to welcome applications for Year 9 although entry into Year 9 from September 2027 will be dependent upon the number of places available in that year group. We have, intentionally, a certain level of flexibility in terms of numbers and, as such, we would expect to be in a position where we can offer a place to students for whom the RGS would clearly be the right environment. By assessing in mid-October of Year 8 and by providing a prompt decision, we are able to give confirmation early in the academic year – and reassurance for parents – as to whether we are able to offer places.
A wait list is available for all year groups (except Years 11 and 13). In exceptional circumstances (such as current school closure) and on an individual basis we may be able to consider intake into Years 11 and 13.
In exceptional circumstances (such as current school closure), we may also be able to accommodate entry mid-year; however, this is rarely beneficial for the student or the school. We would be happy to discuss this on an individual basis.
Students who have been either successful or unsuccessful in their 11+ application to the RGS may re-apply no earlier than entry into Year 10 (with assessment in Year 9) or subsequent years.
Timings of the assessment for entry into each year group are as follows: Year 8 (12+) in February; Year 9 (13+) in October; Year 10 (14+) in March.
