Bursary Awards are available for pupils applying to:
- join the 1st Form (11+) or the Lower Sixth (16+) at RGS Senior School
- join Year 3 at RGS Prep
Bursary Awards range from 5% to 100% of the school fee. In some cases, families awarded 100% bursaries may also be assisted with the cost of lunches and other optional or extra items.
Assessment criteria
The number of bursaries awarded each year depends on available funding and an assessment of applicants’ financial circumstances. This assessment is undertaken by an independent company, Bursary Assessment Associates (BAA), who works with both the School and the family. The financial assessment is entirely separate from the School’s academic entrance process.
Bursary Awards are means-tested according to strict criteria and are granted based on need. The assessment conducted by BAA aims to establish applicants’ ability to pay school fees considering gross and net income, household expenditure and net assets. All information provided by applicants is kept strictly confidential.
As a broad guideline, families with a total annual income exceeding £120,000 are unlikely to be eligible for any financial assistance. Parents may contact the Financial Assistance team to discuss their individual circumstances in strict confidence.
Bursary Awards are reviewed each year to assess whether a family’s financial circumstances have changed. Depending on the annual review assessment, the percentage of Bursary Award granted for the following academic year may be adjusted accordingly.
Application process
Families should inform the Head of Admissions of their intention to apply for a Bursary Award during the registration process. They will then be sent a link to complete an application. If the application is successful, the Bursary Award will be confirmed at the same time as the offer of a place at the School.
