Teacher Training

We work closely with South Farnham Educational Trust (SFET), an Ofsted Outstanding provider of School Centered Initial Teacher Training (SCITT).

How do I gain Qualified Teacher Status?

There are two main pathways to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS):
  1. Salaried route: you will be employed, initially as an unqualified teacher, supported by an Initial Trainee Teacher (ITT) team and professional studies program. You will work to achieve QTS on successful completion of the program.
  2. Placement: you will receive a government funded bursary via the training provider, attending the SFET PGCE course one day a week and attend a series of placements in partner schools.
Any trainee teachers who are placed at the RGS benefit from the support of dedicated mentors and expert subject specialists who guide and challenge them to become exceptional teachers. Whether changing career or fresh out of university, RGS Guildford provides a supportive and enriching environment for aspiring teachers to gain the skills, experience and qualifications required to begin a successful teaching career.

RGS was very supportive, providing me with the appropriate guidance, trust and freedom to enable me to thrive in my first full year of teaching.
