RGS Barbershop Group at St Abbot’s Hospital

On Tuesday 26 November, students in the RGS Barbershop Group brought joy and music to the residents of Abbot’s Hospital with a heart-warming and memorable concert.

The event began with a series of solo performances, where the singers demonstrated their versatility with a repertoire spanning classical pieces to more modern songs. These solo numbers set the tone for the evening, offering something for everyone.

Following the solos, the Barbershop Group performed a stunning selection of acappella numbers that truly highlighted their harmonising skills. The set included timeless classics like hits from the Mamas and the Papas, as well as iconic tracks by the Jackson 5. Their vibrant and energetic renditions brought a fresh take to these beloved songs.

To close the night on a festive note, the group delivered a series of seasonal favourites. Highlights included a spirited rendition of It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year and a lively performance of Jingle Bell Rock. These cheerful tunes had the residents tapping their toes and even humming along, as the Christmas spirit filled the room.

The feedback from the residents was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing there reaction to the performance as being “blown away”. We were told it was “the talk of the morning coffee break” the next day. The RGS Barbershop Group’s talent, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with the residents made this concert a truly special experience.

After such an incredible evening, the residents at Abbot’s Hospital are already eagerly anticipating the next RGS concert. Volunteering events like these not only provide entertainment but also foster a sense of community and joy.
