Recent OGs Achievements and Events

The past few weeks have seen some remarkable achievements and enjoyable events for Old Guildfordians (OGs).

Aidan Beaumont (OG’23) has been selected as a lock for the Cambridge team in this year’s prestigious Men’s Varsity Rugby match, which will take place on 8 March at the home ground of Saracens RFC. Aidan’s selection is a significant achievement and speaks to his dedication and skill in the sport. This follows the announcement last week that Aidan will be part of the Cambridge team for this high-profile match, where he will look to make his mark on one of rugby’s most iconic events.

In another rugby-related milestone, Luke Wyllie (OG’21) has made history as the first OG to captain a team in the Blues Varsity Match. He will lead Oxford’s team against Cambridge at the StoneX Stadium on Saturday, cementing his place in the record books and showcasing the talent and leadership that have made him a standout player. Luke’s appointment as captain adds a special touch to the already highly anticipated fixture.

In the same vein, Stuart Brown (OG’24) and Mattia Santoni (OG’23) played in the Varsity Men’s Seconds Match on Saturday, where Oxford Greyhounds narrowly triumphed over Cambridge LX Club with a score of 32-27. The close match demonstrated the skill and competitive spirit of the players, with both Stuart and Mattia playing key roles in the hard-fought victory.

Outside the world of rugby, Olly Panchaud (OG’14) is taking on a personal challenge that is both meaningful and inspiring. Olly will be running the 2025 TCS London Marathon for Anaphylaxis UK, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals at risk of severe allergic reactions. Olly, who has had a severe peanut allergy since childhood, is keenly aware of the daily challenges and anxieties that come with living with such a condition. He’s excited to take on this bucket-list challenge, despite the nerves, in order to raise awareness for the cause and make a difference for others facing similar struggles.

Finally, Saturday evening saw a delightful social gathering of OGs at The Brew House in Cambridge. The event, a popular Oxbridge student reunion, provided an excellent opportunity for former students and staff to reconnect, share stories, and enjoy great conversation. It was a night filled with laughter, camaraderie, and fond memories, offering a chance for the OG community to come together and celebrate the achievements of their peers.
