The sporting achievements of the RGS teams have continued to impress, with exciting performances across multiple disciplines. Here’s a round-up of the latest results and standout performances.
1st XI Hockey
The 1st XI faced a tough challenge in their recent match against Reed’s, who have made it to the National Quarter Finals. The game began with Reed’s scoring early, but RGS stayed determined. Alex Jourdan’s individual brilliance, with a reverse stick finish, brought the teams level. The first half was a quality contest, with midfield dominance from Sam Bagley, Sam Baldwin and others. Despite falling behind again, RGS remained resilient. Victor Majdanski and Tom Allen’s pressing efforts led to a breakthrough by Fourth Form student Charlie Wareing, who scored twice to secure a 3-2 victory. Goalkeeper Seb Welland made key saves to keep the score level during the tense final moments.
2nd XI Hockey
The 2nd XI showcased their class in a dominant performance against a side that had remained unbeaten all season. Jack Thabrew scored twice, with Rhys Gregory and Dan Wright also getting on the scoresheet in a 4-2 win. The boys displayed excellent teamwork across all areas of the pitch, with a standout performance from Thabrew earning him Player of the Match. This victory was a well-deserved reward for their hard work throughout the season.
U15A Hockey
The Under 15As hosted an unbeaten Reed’s team, who had knocked them out of the cup in a thrilling 5-4 match earlier in the season. RGS made a strong start, with Charlie Wareing scoring early, followed by a well-taken goal from Euan Thornburn, who made an instant impact after returning from injury. However, Reed’s showed their quality in the second half, scoring four unanswered goals to claim a 6-2 win. Despite the score, RGS played some of their best hockey of the season.
U14 Hockey
The U14Cs played an entertaining, end-to-end game against Reed’s, producing some outstanding performances despite the final score. Callum Cowell and Tanush Jami were solid at the back, while Leo Shaw was a standout in attack. Dario Alampi continued his excellent run of form, scoring again to bring his tally to five goals in four games. In contrast, the U14Ds faced a challenging opponent and despite a 5-0 defeat, they showed remarkable resilience in the second half. Dylan McCullough earned Player of the Match for his incredible saves, highlighting the team’s improvement.
Football
The football teams also had a busy week, with the 1st XI facing Alleyn’s in the Trinity Cup Quarter Final. Unfortunately, a rough start left them 0-3 down after 10 minutes, eventually losing 5-0. However, the 2nd XI had a fantastic victory, beating Kingston Grammar 6-1, with goals from Charlie Clyde (2), Sam Carney (2), Dan Yates, and Bajo Loye. The 3rd XI also had a tough match, losing 4-2 to Dunottar 2nd XI, despite a goal from Zayyan Ali. Meanwhile, the 4th XI cruised to a 7-0 win against Kingston Grammar 3rd XI, with multiple players getting on the scoresheet, including Adhit Gupta and Daniel Bristow, who each scored twice.
