Shooting Competitions

The Easter break saw RGS Guildford take part in a number of shooting competitions.  Congratulations to everyone involved in the competitions for their individual and team achievements.

Easter Camp 2025:

At Easter Camp this year we were joined by five other schools (Wellington, Charterhouse, Marlborough, Gresham’s and Bradfield) to both practice fullbore skills and to compete in the Sawyer Cup and the Clayton Challenge.

The first two days were at 300, 500 and 600 yards to learn how to apply the principles of marksmanship correctly and to make the shift from smallbore to fullbore. On the final day was the contest proper, shooting at 300 and 500 yards. The Sawyer Cup saw the RGS A Team coming in fourth place with a respectable 250.8; Charterhouse A took first place, Wellington A second and Bradfield A third.

Congratulations to Ayaan Bhagat for achieving the second highest score from this contest with 67.4. In the Clayton Challenge the RGS fared far better, with the A team securing first place with a score of 255.16 against Charterhouse A’s 252.13 and Gresham’s A’s 250.13. Ayaan Bhagat earned himself the joint top score in this contest with 67.5. A huge well done to everyone that took part
and for coming away with some silverware after a tiring few days.

Country Life 2025 competition:

Out of thirty-three teams all four of the RGS teams placed in the top seven, which is a phenomenal result!

The A Team of Bhagat, Cunningham, Nicholas, Myers and Oscar Deutsch won gold with a score of 448 out of a possible 500. Ayaan Bhagat was congratulated for leading his team to victory on the Landscape and for scoring the only 95 out of 95 in that class of the competition. The D team of Robertson, Wechalekar, Ball, Bannister and Hine pulled out all the stops on the day, shooting well above their averages, and came away with second place and a silver medal each, being just one point behind the A team winners.

Special congratulations go to S Cunningham for getting his team to the highest landscape of the whole competition, 97 out of 120. Well done too to Bhagat, Cunningham, Nicholas, Robertson, Wechalekar, Burton, Pasarkar and Ball all who achieved a score of 90 or above. It was a fantastic set of results and a credit to the team for working so hard across the Lent term to train for this prestigious competition!

Smallbore Winter League:

In the Smallbore Winter League James Nicholas won bronze as an individual and Team A (Nicholas, Myers, Bhagat and Pasarkar) all won bronze too. In the Commonwealth matches the A Team of Nicholas, Myers, Bhagat and Pasarkar all came third in the Ffennell A, winning bronze again. In the Ffennell B the A Team again consisting of Nicholas, Myers, Bhagat and Pasarkar won gold and earned themselves a trophy and medals. The B Team (B Cunningham, Serpant, Goncharuk, Burton) won silver in this competition too, winning a shield and medals.
