The journey to school is part of the daily routine. RGS Guildford sits in the centre of Guildford, well connected by road and rail, so getting here from across Surrey is very straightforward. Whether you are travelling from Woking, Godalming, Cranleigh or further afield, here is how families reach us. On average families tend to commute to the School within a 30-40 minute travel time.
By train
Guildford is a major rail hub with 2 train stations: Guildford and London Road, Guildford enjoying fast, frequent services covering a wide area including Woking, Godalming, leatherhead, Epsom, Kingston, Surbiton, Cobham, Farnham and Wimbledon. Both stations are a short walk from our Senior school on the High Street, and from Year 7 students quickly get into the routine of commuting to school, travelling with friends along their route.
By bus
Many local bus services also run through Guildford town centre with the Friary Bus Station terminating at the bottom of the High Street, just a few minutes walk from the School. Routes cover all of Guildford and the surrounding towns and villages along with routes. These are a handy option for many local families.
Details of various bus routes and timetables can be found here: https://www.rgsg.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Guildford_Bus-Map.pdf
By car
The majority of our Senior school students travel to school using public transport. For those travelling to RGS Prep, or those for whom it is convenient to drive, the School is well-serviced by great road links with the A3 connecting Guildford with Woking, Cobham, Surbiton, to the north and Godalming, Farnham, Haslemere and other areas to the south.
RGS Prep families can take advantage of the extensive wraparound care available from 7.30am to 6.30pm to make travel arrangements as convenient as possible.
Cycling and walking
We encourage active travel for families who live nearby to walk or cycle to school. There are plenty of dedicated bike racks available to secure bikes.
Try it for yourself
The easiest way to judge the journey is to give it a try. Our Open Events run in March, June and October, and you are welcome to plan your Open Day visit around your usual route into Guildford.
