Annual Headmaster’s XI v OGs Cricket Match at Bradstone Book
Last weekend also saw the popular annual Headmaster’s XI v OGs Cricket Match at Bradstone Book – a very enjoyable occasion and one which our OGs absolutely love – the heady combination of being back at Bradstone Brook, reconnecting with old friends and staff again, reminiscing about school days and the years since along with some good-natured banter … and of course a great game of cricket!).
The Headmaster’s XI batted first in this closely contested 40-over match, posting a strong 190-7. After lunch (thanks to another top-notch offering from our catering team), the OGs took to the field, expertly captained by Alex Sweet OG’16. It was competitive, right to the last, with the Headmaster’s team taking victory in the final moments of the match, umpired by OGs Tim Drake ’75 and Mattie Sutton ’22. Thank you so much to Richard Black, Match Manager, and all the staff past and present who gave up their Sunday to play and those who came along to cheer them on, complete with families too.
Old Guildfordians and staff gather in Guildford for a catch up on their experiences post-RGS.
Another highlight of the calendar is the annual OG Student and Staff pub drinks in Guildford. It provided a great informal opportunity for our young OGs to come back, catch up with their teachers and friends and share their latest news. It was lovely to see them on such good form. As always, it’s great to see so many staff attend these events to continue to truly strong community that makes RGS Guildford such a special place.
Class of 1971 & ’72 Old Guildfordians Reunion
Saturday also saw the welcome return of the Class of 1971 & ’72 Old Guildfordians (OGs) for an action-packed day of reunion activities. Drinks in the courtyard and a truly delicious lunch in Big School were followed by a trip to RGS Guildford’s 20 acre sports ground, Bradstone Brook to watch the cricket, a pub quiz and dinner in Guildford. We were delighted to catch up with such great group of former students, generous and supportive of the School’s fundraising and excellent company too! The day provided a nostalgic and very enjoyable trip down memory lane.
