Sport has continued to flourish at RGS Prep this year, with pupils enjoying outstanding success across a wide range of disciplines while demonstrating the values of teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship that are central to school life.
One of the year’s most significant achievements came in swimming, where RGS Prep was awarded the prestigious ESSA Gold Award in recognition of its unwavering commitment to swimming education from Shell through to Year 6. The award celebrates schools that provide swimming opportunities for all pupils throughout the year, with a strong emphasis on skill development, confidence in the water and vital water safety education. The accolade reflects the school’s dedication to ensuring every child benefits from high-quality swimming provision.
The sporting year concluded in style with a memorable Sports Day, held under glorious blue skies. Equipped with hats and water bottles, pupils embraced a day of energetic competition and camaraderie. Pre-Prep pupils tackled an exciting HYROX-inspired programme, featuring a variety of challenges including the popular Ironman event. Across the Prep School, children showcased their agility, strength, speed and determination in both individual and team competitions. Congratulations go to York House, which secured victory in both the Junior and Senior categories.
Cricket enjoyed another exceptional season, with pupils participating in an impressive 215 fixtures, including 26 matches against local girls’ schools. The extensive fixture list provided countless opportunities for pupils to represent the school and develop their game. Highlights included the annual Cricket Development Morning, several individual half-centuries and hat-tricks, and an outstanding Surrey Cup campaign from the U11A team, who reached the semi-finals.
In football, the school continued to build on recent success. Players showed significant progress in their technical ability, decision-making and confidence throughout the season. The U11 squad enjoyed a particularly impressive year, reaching the semi-finals of both the IAPS and ISFA qualifying competitions without conceding a goal during the group stages, while also claiming victory at the Surbiton Football Festival.
Rugby also continued its upward trajectory. Pupils demonstrated excellent commitment and teamwork across all age groups, with the U8 and U9 teams going unbeaten at Surrey rugby festivals and representing the school with distinction.
Meanwhile, hockey and netball continued to grow in popularity and strength. Pupils benefited from regular fixtures, training sessions and development opportunities, helping to build strong foundations for future success.
Finally, multi-sport events thrived, with pupils competing in biathlons, triathlons, aquathlons and duathlons. A standout performance came at the Surrey Aquathlon, where RGS Prep athletes secured numerous podium finishes and several overall titles.
From individual achievements to team triumphs, it has been a truly remarkable year for sport at RGS Prep.
