Relocating with children brings one question to the top of the list: where will they go to school? If you are moving to Guildford or the surrounding Surrey area, here is how to navigate the options with confidence.
Understanding the local landscape
Guildford is well-served with a strong mix of state and independent schools across the town and nearby villages. It helps to decide early what matters most for your family so you can focus your search.
Know the key entry points
Independent schools usually have main entry points rather than rolling admissions. At RGS Guildford these are Nursery, Reception, Year 3, Year 7 and Sixth Form, however there may be occasional spaces in other years, so should enquire with the Admissions team if you are considering entry into other year groups. You can see the detail on our admissions pages.
Time your move
Register your interest as early as you can, as assessment dates are set well ahead. You can see the key registration and assessment dates on our Admissions page here: Admissions | Primary and Senior School Guildford | RGS and select the appropriate year group.
Choose the right fit
Consider your child’s age and stage, the daily journey, and the ethos of each school. Our Prep and Senior pages give a sense of life at each stage.
How we help families relocating
We welcome families moving from across the UK and overseas. Registration is £120 for UK families and £240 for those currently overseas, and we are happy to arrange a call to discuss your requirements if you cannot visit in person yet.
