Open days at independent schools in Surrey: what to expect and how to prepare

An open day is your best chance to get a genuine feel for a school. If you are visiting independent schools across Surrey this year, here is how to make the most of every visit.

What happens at an open day

Most open mornings include a talk from the Head, guided tours led by students, and the chance to meet staff and see lessons and facilities in use. It is as much about atmosphere as information.

What to look for

Watch how students speak to visitors and to one another, whether children seem happy and engaged, and how staff talk about the school. These tell you more than any brochure.

Questions worth asking

Ask about pastoral care and settling in, class sizes, where leavers go next, travel, and fees. Come with your own priorities in mind.

How to prepare

Jot down your questions beforehand, involve your child so you can gauge their reaction, and plan the journey so you experience the commute you would make each day.

Our open events

We hold Open Mornings in March, June and October, along with Sixth Form and Senior events and Nursery Toddler Time sessions. Our next Prep Open Morning is on Saturday 26 September. For those interested in joining in Year 7 we are holding Open Events on 2 and 3 October, and for those wanting to join the Sixth Form, the information evening takes place on 16 September.
