Royal Grammar School Guildford (RGS) is an independent day school in the heart of Guildford, Surrey, educating pupils aged 3 to 18. Founded in 1509, we combine more than 500 years of heritage with a confident, forward-looking approach to learning — and from September 2027 we will welcome girls, becoming fully co-educational with phased entry across the school.
Our school spans three connected stages. RGS Prep, half a mile from the senior school, nurtures children from Nursery and Reception through to Year 6. RGS Senior offers a rigorous, wide-ranging education for students aged 11 to 18 from our historic High Street site. And our Sixth Form prepares young people aged 16 to 18 for the very best universities and for life beyond them.

Co-education
We are excited that the RGS will become co-educational, offering girls the same opportunities that our boys have enjoyed for centuries: academic enrichment and challenge, diverse co-curricular experience and outstanding pastoral care. Girls will be welcomed into both RGS Prep and RGS Senior, with phased entry from September 2027.

Co-curricular
Life beyond the classroom matters just as much to us as what happens within it. We dedicate real time to our co-curricular programme. Monday afternoons and five Field Days (off timetable enrichment days) across the Senior School, and our Inspire Programme and Activities Week throughout RGS Prep.
With more than 70 clubs and societies spanning sport, music, drama, the arts, academic societies and outdoor pursuits, there is something for every interest and every ambition. Along the way, students develop the self-reliance, leadership and teamwork that characterise an RGS education and stay with them long after they leave.
