Chamber Choir’s Evensong at Christ Church Cathedral

Posted: 10th November 2023

Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, a place of worship for nearly 900 years, serves as both the diocesan cathedral and the college’s chapel. With a rich history since Cardinal Wolsey’s absorption in the 1520s, it is renowned for music quality and served as an excellent location for the first Joint Schools’ Chamber Choir outing of the year.

The Joint Schools’ Chamber Choir performed George Dyson’s evocative Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in D major, displaying Dyson’s bold and imaginative text-setting. The choir’s performance exuded exaltation. Edward Bairstow’s Save us, O Lord, a reflective anthem, followed, showcasing his seamless style. The choir, back at Christ Church for the first time since 2014, delivered an exceptional performance, accompanied by Richard Moore and led by Oscar Ford, who impressively handled the role traditionally given to a senior clergy member.
