An ethos of excellence
The RGS community strives for excellence in all it does. Students and staff work alongside each other to offer all the best opportunities and to set the highest personal standards. The School’s formal uniform reflects this. The uniform reminds the community that all students have equal value in the school and an equal place of belonging. The dress code is inclusive of all students.

General appearance
Students’ hair may be of any length but must be tidy and in keeping with a professional environment. Where a student wishes to have short hair all over, this must be no shorter than a grade 2. Hair longer than shoulder length must be tied up with a discreet hair tie while under school discipline. Hair must be its natural colour.
Any Sixth Form student is permitted to grow neat facial hair in keeping with a professional environment. Students wishing to grow facial hair must apply in writing to their Head of Year in advance of the start of term, maintaining the style agreed. Otherwise, students old enough to shave must be clean-shaven.
Sixth Form students may wear one ring and one bracelet that fits under the sleeve of the shirt cuff. Necklaces must not be visible. Earrings must be transparent studs. Discreet make-up is acceptable in keeping with a professional environment. All jewellery must be removed for sport and other activities, as required, for health and safety reasons.
Lower and Middle School students are not permitted to wear jewellery of any kind at school, unless given specific permission from the Senior Deputy Head.
Students are required to adhere to the uniform and appearance code while at school and while travelling to and from school, including Games fixtures. Students wearing Games kit to travel to and from the school must wear tracksuits (shorts are not permitted) and sports shoes. Coats must not be worn in school buildings.
Dress regulations for students
The official school outfitters are Stevenson’s, 210 London Road, Burpham, Guildford, who stock all items of approved school uniform, and Tacklebag for items of sports kit. Students are permitted to come to school wearing items purchased from other suppliers only if each item is identical in style, colour and quality to the item supplied officially. The School recommends that each item of clothing and equipment be clearly and indelibly marked.
The Head reserves the right, in their absolute discretion, to refuse entry to the School to any student failing to observe any of these dress regulations, and to rule on the acceptability of variations not covered by the regulations.
